Our New Addition

On Thursday evening, February 17th, our new addition to Stenwood was opened. Thank you to Phil and his many crews for all the hard work and labor to make Stenwood a wonderful place for learning. The next phase includes the front entry as well as the offices. Phase 1 – Near Completion

Our FCPS construction supervisor gave the administration a quick tour of the new addition to be ready for our students in January. Brian Hubler came along and documented the progress being made with some photos, herein. We were pleased to see the care with which the addition is being constructed with attention to every detail. The new water pipes are in and under inspection now, the new roof completed, so now it is just the fine details to make the spaces ready. The office space, also in the addition, will be another month or so before a relocation. We have exciting times to come.

Looking Good

There has been so much progress on our building that I wanted to allow the pictures to speak for themselves. It is so exciting to see so much of the building under roof now. The back wing of the building is really taking shape and as you see when you visit, the front of the building looks wonderful with the foundation laid and the walls and brickwork done with excellence.

This will be my last post to the renovation blog as I am turning the job over to Ms. Peggy Dammeyer, Stenwood’s interim principal. I have enjoyed sharing information about Stenwood’s renovation with you this way. It is fun to look at the past photos and see the progress…especially now that we can envision the end results.

I cannot wait to see what the building will look like in September 2011! I will be subscribing to the blog so I can watch along with the rest of you.

I wish you all the best of luck as you continue on this journey to a wonderful new facility.

Rainy Day

Rainy days pose a challenge for all of us outside the main building. It was soggy but we all fared well.

Today was a quiet construction day but enjoy the pictures that show our progress!

East Addition

The other day they poured the foundation for the new main entrance and office in the front of the school also know as the east addition. The contractor is always referring to the additions by their cardinal points. The media center and rooms in the back are the west addition and the resource room by the gym is the south addition. Sometimes I wish he would just say front, back, and side.

Dust Everywhere!

It has been difficult to get into the building to see the progress because of the level of dust. When the workers in the building are wearing respirators, I am sure I do not want to go exploring!

There is so much activity in and outside the school. They are taking full advantage of an empty building. The contractors are busy putting in new water lines, air conditioning and heating ducts, and electrical wiring in the main hallway ceilings. Masons continue to work on building the addition. They have poured the footers for the new front entrance and lobby. The parking lot has new concrete islands and a ramp to meet current building codes. New tile and fixtures are being placed in the bathrooms by the cafeteria.

I have been promised that they will slow down on the work inside next week so the dust can be cleared and the school cleaned for the start of school.

Lazy Days of Summer

I have been a lazy blogger but the construction workers at Stenwood have been very busy. Big changes have taken place. The old main entrance has been blocked and a new temporary entrance will soon be functional. The main office was demolished so they can begin building the new entrance and lobby. They have completely “gutted” the bathrooms by the cafeteria. The bathrooms will be completed by the first day of school. It will be the first new part of the school we will get to see and use.
